In early 2020 SCI Fire Protection secured a 4-month passive fire improvement contract as a new supplier pilot programme via a competitive tender for the NHS Trust working within Queen Alexandra Hospital. Works included the completion of all compartmentation remedial actions across a multitude of property archetypes comprising of live wards, communal areas and theatres focusing upon penetration sealing, cavity barriers and general passive fire protection upgrade works. The pilot programme proved to be extremely successful and SCI Fire Protection secured the remaining contract for the project, which is estimated at a total cost of 1.8million.
During its history, the Queen Alexandra Hospital has seen a multitude of changes and alterations to both its core and adjacent buildings; with being redeveloped from a military hospital back in 1999, it was evident that under new regulations, there was a significant amount of remedial work required to ensure compliance was achieved. The initial intrusive surveys across the hospital in its entirety enabled us to quickly develop a plan to perform all the required remedial actions to an accredited standard. From minor actions to complete replacement compartmentation, we managed each item in accordance with our manufacturer's specifications to provide the highest possible standard of protection.
We developed a Quality Project Plan in accordance with our internal QMS and strict guidelines of our third-party accreditation scheme bringing together excellent project management, mobilisation, pre, during and post construction stages, ensuring all resources were in place to close out over 400 remedial actions per month. We provide a fully trained team of experienced supervisors/trade operatives supporting the FIRAS drive for excellent technical competence across the Queen Alexandra Hospital project.
We provide the NHS Trust with performance information, including handover documentation via a Shared File transfer identifying target completions achieved. On account of excellent performance combined with high customer satisfaction rates and having capacity to deliver. We regularly receive positive feedback from both our management and technicians working on-site and are proud of the representation of the SCI Fire Protection brand. This is currently a live project and with sufficient planning and the excellent efforts of the team it is now estimated that the project will produce a significant saving based on its original forecast.
Having built up a professional, respectable relationship within the trust over the duration of the main PFP contract based on our performance, the trust awarded further Fire Protection works to our client which now includes SCI Fire to provide full compartmentation works to all Queen Alexandra peripheral buildings (Approximately 20 additional buildings) These works will include the provision of all passive fire protection applications to ensure all buildings achieve the relevant compliance in line with current regulations.
